Hi Folks --
Well, guess what. We're pregnant -- or as my wife says "preggo."
We're super excited, and of course this opens up a whole new world.
So, one of our first questions is about diapers. I'm sure we'll have plenty of times when we have coupons or other specials. But in a pinch, is there a consensus on the best deal?
We don't belong to any wholesale clubs, but I suppose that's an option if it is a quick payback period.
We already found out about the various clothing consignment sales (kids xchange and kids everywear) and I think we have lots of folks ready to loan or give us toys.
But I think there is no getting around buying diapers.
Thoughts? |

Hi Dan...CONGRATS!!!
Im not in the Diaper stage anymore....but in my experience, it never pays to go with the "cheapest" as they really dont "work" well, atleast in my experience! The tabs never stay closed, they leak really bad, and dont have very good absorbency, some of them arent as breathable which leads to bad diaper rash.
My favorites were always Pampers & Huggies.(sign up on their sites and you will start to get Q's)
Maybe others have had better experience with the cheaper no name brands, but I didnt.

Congrats Dan That is great.
What I have found with a girl and a boy that different diapers worked differently.
I always liked Target brand and I used Walgreens on my son but not my daughter. I had issues with front leakage on the other cheap diapers on my son (since his hose would get the front very wet) but not so much with my daughter since the wetness was all over.
I used pampers and huggies usually but Luvs and walgreens in a pinch. I know that Walgreens does some BOGO F or BOGO half. I used to combine those with the $5 off $20 that would go around and get a decent deal.
Good Luck and congrats again.

| Thanks everyone. I'll register on the pampers/huggies sites and let's see if they send me some coupons! |

Have your wife sign up for trianglemommies if she's not already. or even charlottemommies (sales tend to be pretty much the same in these two areas). there is a forum called domestic goddesses - i'm not sure about the triangle forum, but here on charlottemommies, users are constantly posting the best diaper/wipe deal scenarios - there's a lot of great forums for parenting on this site that answer all sorts of questions, but the domestic goddess forum has all the deals! start stock piling now!
ETA: Also check out the sticky "Diaper Stockpile?" on HCW, under the forum "In the Family Way" - it will give you some estimates of how many of each size diaper to stockpile. _________________ Heather |

Dan,
Congratulations!!! I'm due with our 3rd child any second now, so I hear you about diapers. When I had my other two girls, we used BJ's brand almost exclusively. I never had any trouble with leaking, explosions, diaper rash or anything else. At the time I found them to be the cheapest. However, I will fully admit that I was NOT a couponer at all at the time.
I've been gathering quite a bit of information for my price book and so far, coupons included, the best price I've seen are Luvs diapers at BJ's. The size 1/2 worked out to just over .11c a diaper. Additionally, I purchased some store brand diapers on closeout from Babies R Us the other night and they were only .10 a diaper. Since the baby hasn't been born yet, I cannot attest to the quality of either the Luvs or the "store brand" Babies R Us, but I will be happy to update in the future.
A while ago Walgreens ran a great deal on Huggies, that worked out well with coupons and RR, but for "every day" I've found BJ's to be the cheapest.
HTH and congrats again. When are you due?? |

| Hi and Congratulations! With my 3rd daughter (all girls) I used Aldi's brand of diapers when she got a little older (9 months or so). We never had any problems even though she has dry skin (which = diaper rash)! They usually run 5.99 for a "jumbo" size pack-a good price when you don't have coupons, sales, etc.! |

Wow, that's so funny! We were just telling a couple we met tonight how we are always impressed with Aldi's brand products. I guess we'll try their diapers as well.
Thanks! |

Congratulations!
We have 3 girls and they all did well with Luvs, Pampers, and Target brand diapers.
We are in the adoption process now and so I am keeping my eye out for good deals and buying diapers to put away until we need them.
I do not know the policy here for referring to personal websites, but my blog has a GREAT deal on Luvs from diapers.com on there that I cannot take credit for--got it from the Living on a Dime ladies. It explains how to get the deal and what code to use...in the end you can get size 1 diapers for about .07 per diaper which is such a good price!
With a $49+ order you get free shipping, and it comes in 2 days (at least mine did...I ordered Thurs. afternoon and the box came today!).
My blog address is www.savermom.blogspot.com and the first post you will see if the diaper deal.
If it is not okay to post that, then please remove it.
Hope that helps! |

Congratulations, Dan!!!
I really liked Luvs diapers - they worked just as well as Pampers, but were much, much cheaper in price. Pampers and Huggies are starting to get way overpriced and are lowering their diaper count in the packages (of course, if you have coupons and match up with a sale, you can get a good deal). But if you don't have a coupon...definitely try out Luvs.
As for generic diapers - I found that Target brand diapers were the best of all generics I tried on my kids.
Diapers and wipes are not very budget-friendly. I finally potty trained the last of my kids and it feels like I just gave myself a huge monthly raise!! Whoo hoo!
Don't forget the TMOTT Consignment Sale, too. (Triangle Mothers of Twins & Triplets) Anyone can shop - open to public on Sat. March 27th. AWESOME sale! Website here: http://www.tmott.org/sale.htm _________________ Super SavvyMama to 3 kids ages 5 and under in Cary! |

Congratulations Dan! I am so happy for both of you!
My girls were fine in store brand during the day, but I always used Pampers or Huggies at night. Been too long to remember which store brands I liked though!
Sending wishes for a healthy pregnancy! _________________ Faye

Congrats!
Luvs are my FAVORITE. They are made my Pampers but are much cheaper. Also, Target brand is great too. Watch for Q's on Target receipts for baby items including Target brand diaps. |

Dan,
Also, I signed up for Luvs newsletter, membership program and I just received two coupons for $2.50 off ANY box of diapers. So that will make them even cheaper.
Sorry to steal your thread, but can you tell me how many diapers come in the Aldi's jumbo pack? I like to enter the price and quantity in my price book, so I can figure out the cheapest price per diaper? Aldis is a far drive for me, but I'm willing to go there if the price is right. Plus they usually have great deals on produce and frozen fish. |
